You really want to buy a big screen TV that costs $97.  You can’t afford it on your own, so you ask your mom and she gives you $50. You still need more so you ask your dad and he also gives you $50.  You go to the store and buy the TV and you get $3 in change.  You give $1 to your mom and $1 to your dad to start repaying them and you keep the last $1 for yourself.  

Later that night, you’re going back through your finances.  You now owe your mom $49 and you owe your dad $49, for a total of $98.  You have the one extra dollar that you kept, that’s $99.  What happened to the other dollar?

Monday we leave for Thompson Island!!

Remember to pack:
  • clothes for warm or cold weather (layers)
  • a raincoat
  • a warm jacket or fleece
  • a backpack and water bottle
  • waterproof boots or sneakers
  • clothes you don't mind getting dirty
  • a good book
  • a sleeping bag and pillow
  • a towel, soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste
  • deodorant (you want this no matter what anyone says!)
  • optional - a disposable camera and a flashlight
Leave the following behind:
  • cell phones
  • ipods
  • expensive clothes or jewelry
  • video games
  • all other electronics
When you come to school on Monday, remember to bring your gear into the cafeteria, then go to your advisory. Bring a good snack to eat before we leave.
The bus will leave at about 9:00 A.M.
